Tasting Notes

Lots of freshness but just about enough ripe fruit too. Teensy bit inky on the end.

Score: 16 - 17

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2004-2012 09 November 2010

Wonderful aromas of blackberry, light spices and currant follow through to a full-bodied palate, with chewy tannins and a long finish. Still tannic and tight.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2008. 24,000 cases made.

James Suckling, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2008+ 01 January 2007

Licorice, blackberry and mineral undertones. Full-bodied, with silky and refined tannins. Long finish. Just about ready. Balanced and harmonious.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2007.

James Suckling, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2007+ 01 January 2007

(44% cabernet sauvignon, 43% merlot and 13% petit verdot) Medium ruby-red. Flamboyant aromas of smoky black cherry, beefsteak tomato, roasted herbs, espresso, underbrush and truffle. Smooth and fat, with sweet dark berry flavors and lush texture, if not the normal clarity of Lagrange. Finishes with tongue-coating tannins that arrive late. Just now reaching its peak. A merlot-oriented wine, notes Ducasse, and ultimately less fine-grained than the vintages based more heavily on cabernet. "1995 was considered great at the outset, but we don't find it to be an exceptional year," Ducasse added.

Score: 89

Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 01 September 2004

The 1995 Lagrange is similar to the 1996, but the fruit is sweeter, the acidity lower, and the wine less marked by Cabernet Sauvignon. The color is a deep ruby/purple. The wine boasts a roasted herb, charcoal, black currant, mineral, and new oak-scented nose. Medium to full-bodied and ripe, with copious quantities of jammy black cherry and cassis flavors presented in a medium-bodied, low acid, moderately tannic style, this well-endowed, purely made wine requires cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2020.

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2003-2020 01 February 1998

The 1995 possesses low acidity, a flattering, pure nose of jammy black cherries, chocolate, underbrush, and wood. With excellent concentration, low acidity, and medium body, this is an attractively ripe, dense Pomerol that should drink well for 10-14 years. Last tasted 11/97
