Tasting Notes

Tasted blind at Bordeaux Index’s 2000 tasting in London. This Les Forts de Latour is quite hard to fathom out and at first, it was difficult to pin down. But returning after a couple of hours, the wine is finally starting to coalesce, with ripe strawberry, blackcurrant and mint on the nose with just a hint of graphite. The palate, hard at first, softens and finds its rhythm, sensuous and beautifully balanced on the pure finish. Approach with caution...but do approach. Drink 2014-2025+ Tasted March 2010.

The 2000 Les Forts de Latour is a seriously endowed wine with notes of black walnuts, black currants, crushed rock, tobacco and spice box. Full-bodied, luscious but still in need of another 2-3 years to hit full maturity, it certainly can evolve for another 15 or more years, and looks to be slightly richer and longer-lived than I originally predicted.

Dark and shaded ruby. Much more complex nose than any wine so far. But quite developed..? I love the minerality and lusciousness-yet-dryness on the finish. Very solid performance and a lovely wine for an extended period, I would say. Very grown up indeed.

Very good red-ruby. Exotic aromas of roasted red berries and spices. Sweet, lush, broad and impressively ripe. Flavors of black cherry, licorice and shoe polish are at once classic Pauillac and compellingly exuberant. Complicated by a lovely floral element. Finishes very long, bright and sweet. A superb vintage for this wine.

Super enticing aromas of crushed raspberries, Indian spices and hints of vanilla. Full-bodied, with a refined and tight tannin structure and a long, refreshing finish. A beauty. Second wine of Latour. Best Les Forts in years. Best after 2009. 11,665 cases made.
