Tasting Notes

A brooding yet softly perfumed nose features a pretty mix of both red and dark berry aromas that are just beginning to display some secondary development along with background nuances of spice and exotic tea. The delicious and relatively accessible medium-bodied flavors exude a discreet minerality on the complex, balanced and lingering finish. For my taste this hasn't quite yet arrived at its peak though it's not far away and could easily be enjoyed now. That said I would advise hold this for another 2 to 4 years first. In a word, lovely.

Interestingly this is almost like a hypothetical blend of the Charmes and Mazis with the elegance of the Charmes allayed with the power and punch of the Mazis as this too evidences red and blue fruit with an earthy spiciness that slides into rich, full and relatively powerful flavors that possess obvious finishing minerality on the solidly long and palate staining finale. Good stuff here and worth a look.

Bright and laced with cherry, spice and mineral flavors, this supple red has well-integrated tannins and picks up a licorice tinge on the finish. Not flashy, but intense and long. Best from 2013 through 2023.

Nutmeg, coriander, and fresh sour cherry aromas on the nose of Rousseau's 2006 Clos de La Roche usher in a fascinating palate, pungently spicy, tartly-fruited, and backed by an alkaline, saline, very marine sense of mineral abundance. The smoky, stony, and bitter-sweet elements in common with so many wines of this collection here steer clear of austerity thanks to the wine's sheer primary juiciness and the invigorative potential of its distinctive minerality. If tasted blind, I might well have picked it as a rarified expression of Clos St.-Denis. I expect this will be worth savoring over the next 6-8 years, but given the relative delicacy of its frame, I would want to monitor its evolution in case it seems a shame not to enjoy it sooner.

David Schildknecht, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2009-2017 01 December 2009

Good full red. Serious, brooding nose dominated by meat and spices. Bigger and broader in the mouth than the Mazy, with a lower pitch and a wilder character to its flavors of dark berries, mocha, menthol, meat and spices. Finishes broad and suave, with big, dusty tannins.
