The 2008 Rauzan-Ségla is a solid vintage and is still relatively youthful, yet it’s certainly drinking nicely. A blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot, it has a cooler, black-fruited, menthol, and tobacco-driven bouquet as well as medium to full body, still present tannins, considerable elegance, and outstanding length. Overall it’s a pretty, well-balanced 2008 that’s going to continue evolving for another 15-20 years. Score: 91 Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com Maturity: 2019-2039 01 May 2019 |

The 2008 Rauzan-Ségla, a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot, is just beginning to show signs of maturity in the glass. The bouquet has always been a little conservative and foursquare in my opinion, as if the Merlot needs to “gee up” and impart more opulence and fruité. There is a light earthy scent, and a touch of warm brick infusing the dark berry fruit, but it does not quite “billow” as you would like a Margaux wine to do. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a fine line of acidity, truffle tinged red berry fruit laced with mocha and leather. This is showing more secondary notes towards the finish, but I would still afford it maybe another year or two in bottle. Score: 91 Neal Martin, Vinous.com Maturity: 2020-2045 01 February 2018 |

Compared to Rauzan-Gassies, the Rauzan Segla has more fruit concentration on the nose: blackberry, tar, a touch of pomegranate and spice. Good definition. The palate is medium-bodied, harmonious, just lacking the structure and length that I was expecting. Given time in the glass though it begins to unfold, revealing more depth than first supposed with a very elegant finish of blackberry, cedar and graphite. This should give much more after bottling. The 2008 Rauzan-Segla (62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot) was made from 45% of the production. It is a beautiful wine in this vintage, not nearly as powerful and structured as the 2010, but it has complex notes of sweet red and black fruits, unsmoked cigar tobacco, spice box and a hint of very subtle wood. The complex perfume is followed by a dark ruby/plum-colored wine with beautifully sweet tannins, a silky, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and a long finish. This outstanding Margaux should drink nicely for 15-20 years. (90+) Score: 90 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2011-2031 03 May 2011 |

This outstanding effort is atypically forward, sexy, and opulent. Only 45% of the crop made it into this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Yields were 47 hectoliters per hectare, which is slightly higher than some estates, but the harvest was very late, between October 2-21. Sweet cassis, black cherry, licorice, tobacco leaf, and spice box are all present in the complex aromatics. In the mouth, the wine offers generosity, roundness, sweetness, and velvety, ripe tannins. I was surprised by how forward, precocious, and delicious this wine has already become. It appears set for a relatively long life of 25+ years. A touch soft, but persistent, with pretty floral, mulled plum and tobacco notes that glide over light, rounded tannins. The pure finish lets the fruit hang elegantly. This wins on balance rather than depth. Drink now through 2014. Score: 90 James Molesworth, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2011-2014 30 April 2011 |

Offers flowers, currant, berries and sandalwood on the nose. Full-bodied, with firm tannins and lots of fruit and freshness. Firm and racy. There's a little more Cabernet this year and no Petit Verdot. Score: 90 - 93 James Suckling, Wine Spectator 01 April 2009 |

16.5 score Lightly fragrant. Not especially intense but well balanced though pretty forward. Sudden finish. Easy wine for relatively early consumption. Neat, long finish. It’s all on the end with this wine. Great complex finish. Score: - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2012-18 01 April 2009 |
