Tasting Notes

Blackish crimson. Very very ripe and purple-tasting somehow. Very sweet and smooth and rich and extremely ripe. Very unlike the rest of these wines. Much riper and with some rather drying tannins but with so much ambition you can almost hear it in the glass.

Score: 16 - 17

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2014-2024 10 February 2011

Full red-ruby. Expressive aromas of currant, espresso and tobacco leaf, with a lightly weedy herbal nuance. Then sweet and fine-grained but a bit youthfully taut in the middle, with harmonious acidity giving the wine a juicy quality. Finishes with broad, sweet tannins that will not get in the way of enjoying this wine soon.

Score: 89

Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 01 July 2010

A sexy blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the robust 2007 Monbousquet displays lots of toasty oak intermixed with sweet kirsch, blacker fruits, and spice box. Plush, medium to full-bodied, and supple textured, it is ideal for drinking over the next 7-8 years.

Score: 90

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2010-2018 30 April 2010

Dark berry, sweet tobacco and spice aromas lead to a full body, with lots of fruit and soft, velvety tannins. Not a big midpalate, but plenty there. Best after 2011. 5,835 cases made.

Score: 88

James Suckling, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2011+ 31 March 2010

Spicy, with coffee and ripe fruit aromas. Medium body, firm tannins and a chocolate and berry aftertaste. Solid for the vintage. Tiny bit hollow midpalate.

Score: 87 - 90

James Suckling, Wine Spectator 01 April 2008

Dark purple-black hue. Rich, compote of ripe to overripe fruit. Has the weight and texture but lacks a little zest and vigour this year. Drink 2011-2018

Score: 15

Decanter, - Maturity: 2011-2018 08 April 2008

This has a very rich nose of plum jam, black cherries and a touch of chocolate. It does lack some definition and finesse. The palate is full-bodied, very tannic with dense, slightly meaty black fruits with a touch of dried orange peel towards the dry, masculine, tobacco tinged finish. Not my style.

Score: 87 - 89

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 01 April 2008

Deep deep crimson. Very ripe nose with cherries, banana and raisins. Very big and broad in the mouth thick cherry fruit and toasty spice, hard-edged tannins and a hottish finish. Very dry.

Score: 86 - 88
