Tasting Notes

Delicious, supple and close to full maturity, the 2007 Lynch Bages exhibits a dark plum/purple color with some lightening at the edge along with tobacco leaf, bay leaf, black currant and earthy, loamy notes. Medium-bodied, supple and charming, it is best drunk over the next 7-8 years.

Score: 88

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2011-2019 31 August 2011

A big, fruity effort, the 2007 Lynch Bages offers lots of creme de cassis, damp earth, and subtle background oak. It is a deep, layered, lush, forward, evolved wine that will offer hedonistic drinking over the next decade.

Score: 89

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2010-2020 30 April 2010

Full ruby-red. Aromas of cassis, blackberry, licorice and minerals. Juicy and tightly wound but essentially pliant, with smooth black fruit and licorice flavors complicated by leather and fresh herbs. Classically dry and very Pauillac. Finishes with supple but firm tannins.

Score: 88

Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 01 July 2010

Displays blackberry and other dark fruits on the nose, with hints of vanilla. Full-bodied, offering chewy tannins, yet polished and refined. A little hollow, but very attractive. Best after 2012.

Score: 88

James Suckling, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2012+ 31 March 2010

Berry and currant on the nose and palate, with medium body, fine tannins and a slightly dilute finish.

Score: 85 - 88

James Suckling, Wine Spectator 31 March 2008

Mid purplish crimson. Real warmth and spice on the nose. A real line through it. Almost St-Estèphe-like austerity but lots of character. Lean and light . Nicolas Labenne (ex Calon-Ségur) arrived in 2006, same time as Jean-Charles Cazes took over from his father.

Score: 17

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2011-2018 27 October 2009

A very deep purple/garnet colour. There is certainly good fruit concentration on the nose without signs of greenness although it is lacking the definition that it showed during primeur. Quite floral, with violets coming through. Very soft on the entry, almost lush in the mouth, very fleshy, pure and caressing. Very feminine. It firms up a little in the mouth, those tannins coming through on the finish, which has good grip and weight. Very unresolved but it has the component parts and I look forward to tasting this after bottling. Drink 2012-2025. Tasted September 2008.

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2012-2025 01 January 2009

Deep purple-red, good depth of blackcurrant Cabernet fruit, finely expressed fruit on palate, discreet (for Lynch-Bages) yet all in a piece, good length, nicely ripe tannins, good balance. Drink 2012-20.

Score: 17

Decanter, - Maturity: 2012-2020 08 April 2008

Deep crimson.. Intriguing aromatic nose with lavish ripe berry fruits, vanilla, cloves, and mint. Moderate weight of sweet and spicy black fruit. Attractively textured. Very approachable and refreshing but there is good structure here too. Well-balanced and reasonably long too.

Score: 90 - 92
