Tasting Notes

The 2007 Sociando-Mallet has a pleasing sense of mineralité and delineation on the nose: nicely focused with attractive rose petal scents. The palate is brisk on the entry with rigid tannin, quite savory with a gravelly, masculine and tobacco finish. It's a little rough around the edges, but it should drink well for the next 5-7 years. Tasted March 2015.

Score: 87

This is just a little over-extracted for Sociando Mallet. Saturated black fruits but there is a touch of prune mixed in there. The palate is tannic with good delineation but the finish is green and rather austere. Tasted April 2008.

Score: 85 - 87

Delivers licorice and blackberry on the nose, with fresh currant bush. Medium-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and a slightly lean finish. Needs a little time. Best after 2011. 35,000 cases made.

Score: 87

James Suckling, Wine Spectator 31 March 2010

A fruity wine, with a slightly hollow midpalate, but clean and attractive. Medium tannins and a fresh finish.

Cedary (sappy) cassis. Markedly silky in the context of this vintage. Gentle and restrained and yet has nicely sustained juicy fruit and good length. (JH)

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2011-2016 10 April 2008

Deep colour, discreet nose, fleshy fruit and good structure on the palate, good class if rather severe and four-square at the moment. Drink 2013-20.
