Tasting Notes

I also loved the 2007 Rauzan-Ségla. It has a Château Margaux-like bouquet of sweet red and black fruits, incense, flowers, and saddle leather. A classic blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, this medium-bodied, precocious, complex effort has loads of character, resolved tannins, moderate acidity, notable balance, and a great finish. I’ve always loved the charming style of the 2007s, and this is drinking at point today yet will unquestionably keep for another decade or more.

The 2007 Rauzan-Segla (Rausan-Segla) has a wonderful bouquet of dark red brambly fruit, sandalwood, sage and cloves aromatics that convey a sense of warmth and homeliness. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly grainy tannin on the entry; there is truffle-infused black fruit, sea salt and a healthy pinch of spice, leading to a refined, almost Pomerol-like finish. The acidity feels a little lower than other coeval vintages, affording it a sense of approachability, almost "easy-drinking" in nature. Delicious that sums this Margaux up in a word. Tasted February 2017.

This takes time to wake up in the glass so I give it five minute to evolve. It has one of the few sensuous Left Bank noses with ripe raspberry, wild strawberry and a touch of oyster shell. Very well defined. The palate is very cohesive with physiologically ripe tannins with notes of ripe raspberry, minerals and a touch of mulberry. Almost Burgundian on the sumptuous finish. Very classy.

This substantial 2007 (a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot) exhibits a deep ruby/purple-tinged color along with a big, sweet kiss of licorice, forest floor, tobacco leaf, black currants, and cherries. It possesses a lovely texture, a round, ample mouthfeel, sweet tannin, and low acidity. It is drinking well now, and should continue to evolve for a decade or more. 89+ points

Offers plum and berry, with hints of toasty oak and cedar. Full-bodied, with a serious midpalate of ripe fruit and silky tannins. Long and focused on the finish. Pretty and seamless. Best after 2013. 11,250 cases made.

Very pretty fruit for the vintage, with blackberry, currant and lightly smoky oak. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a fruity finish. Refined and delicious.

Good full red-ruby. Aromas of sweet boysenberry syrup, menthol, tar, licorice and minerals. Rich, fruity and slightly warm, with berry, licorice and chocolate flavors dominating. Finishes with fairly supple tannins and moderate persistence.

Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 20 May 2008

Very lightweight nose, with some very snazzy tannin management and a bit of real vigour on the palate. Some fruity core here, though a fairly watery finish. But at least the texture is well done even if there’s not so much flavour nor quite enough freshness.

Intense purple-red, very fine fragrance on the nose, lifted Cabernet fruit and shows lovely florality and elegance, very good depth of fruit on the palate, combining ripeness and precision and purity, a wine that already shows extremely well and can only improve.

Deep ruby. Expressive nose with damsons. Ample forest fruits, currants and chocolate. Creamy textured with fine tannins and a dry finish. Clean and serious with good density and finesse. A definite success in 2007.
