Tasting Notes

The 1995 Haut-Bailly is quite deep in colour. It has a gorgeous bouquet with blackberry, incense and touches of melted dark chocolate. Hints of menthol develop with aeration. The palate is very well defined with ample weight and tobacco-infused black fruit. Firmer towards the end with a touch of meat juices on the finish. It is a bit broad-shouldered but an utterly delicious Haut-Bailly that is à point.

A beauty, this deep ruby-colored wine offers a classic, smoky, cherry, red and black currant-scented nose, sweet, lush, forward fruit, medium body, true delicacy and elegance (as opposed to thinness and dilution), perfect balance, and a lovely, long, supple, velvety-textured finish. This is a ballerina of a claret, with beautiful aromatics, lovely flavors, and impeccable equilibrium. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2018.
