Tasting Notes

The 2013 Langoa Barton has a perfumed bouquet, touches of Asian spice and cedar infusing the black fruit, a touch of cold stone surfacing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, minerally red berry fruit, fine tension here with a simple, nicely balanced, fresh cedary finish. It could be described as a "workman-like" Langoa, but in a positive sense of the word. It does its job.

Score: 88

The Langoa Barton is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc picked between 2 and 14 October. It has a light gravelly bouquet with blackberry and iodine with a tang of seaweed. The palate has a harmonious entry with fine tannins, a laid-back Langoa that is simple but elegant. This is a simple, easy drinking Langoa to enjoy over the next 10 years. Tasted April 2014.

Even mid-ruby colour. Lovely and clean with lots of black liquorice. Carefully managed tannins. Correct and well-measured. Dry and classical.

Smoky, flinty character to the nose. Elegant aromatic quality, plenty of perfume. Pretty firm build, with a long, grippy persistence. Lots to enjoy here. (17+)

On the taut side, with a sinewy feel to the red currant and damson plum fruit. Rather brisk through the finish, with the iron and savory details standing out.
