Tasting Notes

Pale bright gold. Lovely mealy orange notes, reminding me of a white burgundy but with all that added fruit sweetness. Fine sour freshness, complex and bright. Succulent and long with a mouthwatering finish.

With Alain Raynaud taking more of an interest in this estate, which is actually run by his sister, it will be interesting to see if they can push the quality of this fabulous terroir to the level of some of the great estates on the plateau of Pomerol, such as Petrus, Vieux-Chateau-Certan, and Lafleur. Certainly the 2006 is an outstanding wine. This 100% Merlot boasts a deep, saturated ruby/purple color followed by sweet raspberry and blueberry notes interwoven with hints of truffles and charcoal. The wine possesses a full-bodied, luscious texture, admirable purity, and impressive length. It should be drinkable in 2-3 years, and evolve for 15+.

This 100% Merlot cuvee, from a 7.5-acre vineyard situated high on the plateau of Pomerol between Petrus and Lafleur, has turned out exceptionally well in 2006. It boasts a deep saturated blue/purple color as well as a gorgeous bouquet of graphite, blueberries, black raspberries, sweet cherries, and spicy, toasty oak, a luscious texture, sweet tannin, and impressive length. It should be approachable in 3-4 years and last for two decades.

Not especially deep colour. Lively, zesty, vaguely toasty nose. Very round and flattering, full of life. Velvety. Actually rather reminiscent of Pomerols of old. Racy, and this wine delivers. Zest as well as depth. Well done. All it lacks is really solid fruit throughout the tasting experience. Very fine tannins on the finish.
