The depth of flavour is more clear, along with the fragrance of the freshly cut and dried herbs - white pepper, sage, turmeric, cloves, incense, very much coming in on the retro-olfaction, deep black cherry, just beautifully characterful, great stuff, easy one to recommend, 50% new oak, clay limestone really doing its absolute best. The 2022 Montlandrie, which came across more like a Left Bank wine out of barrel, veers back toward Côtes de Castillon now that it is in bottle. This is quite opulent yet deftly controlled on the nose, with copious black fruit, vanilla extract, violet and dark chocolate aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and touches of graphite coming through on the linear finish. It has beautiful balance and wonderful fruit purity, sashaying along with style. The 2022 Montlandrie is another stellar wine in this range from the Durantou sisters. A healthy percentage of Cabernets (30%) in the blend adds aromatic lift and gorgeous supporting structure. Montlandrie is a complete wine. It offers striking aromatics, layered, sepia-toned fruit and exquisite balance, along with a beautifully articulate, sustained finish that is quite simply captivating. Based on 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2022 Château Montlandrie has lots of ripe red and black fruits supported by notions of loamy soil, savory spices, and leafy herbs. Notes of sweet cherries, berries, licorice and smoke preface the 2022 Montlandrie, a medium to full-bodied, suave and vibrant wine with a deep core of fruit, lively acids, powdery tannins and a saline finish.
