Tasting Notes

After several listless performances from this superb terroir near Cheval Blanc and the Pomerol border, La Dominique’s 2006 exhibits a dense purple color and a sweet nose of licorice, nori (the seaweed wrapper used in sushi restaurants), raspberry, and kirsch. Full, with a certain flamboyance, ripe tannins, and a layered, long finish, this is a terrific La Dominique to drink over the next 12-14 years.

Score: 90

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2009-2023 01 February 2009

Good intensity on the nose with raspberry leaf, a touch of cedar and well integrated new oak. The palate has firm tannins, harmonious with some nice Cabernet Franc lending it a savoury edge. Good length, but just a touch of astringency marring the finish. Tasted April 2007.

Score: 88 - 90

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 01 May 2007

Very dark brownish purple. Lifted nose - very appetising. Sweet, very slightly inky palate. Inky finish. Rather dried fruit in the middle - a lack of fruity flesh. Hole in the middle.

Score: 15

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2012-2017 18 April 2007

A very well-situated property neighbouring Cheval Blanc. Now under the supervision of Jean-Luc Thunevin of Valandraud, who has introduced modern viticultural techniques and a change of style. This is rich and ripe with spicy, juicy fruit and a touch of prune liqueur.

Score: 88 - 90

Albany Vintners, - 01 April 2007

Has some berry and coffee character, with a medium body and good tannins, but this is slightly austere on the finish.

Score: 85 - 88
