Tasting Notes

The 2006 Faugeres reveals solidly constructed, chunky, blue and black fruit aromas and flavors intertwined with notions of new oak, licorice, and espresso roast. Medium-bodied with some unresolved tannins, it is well-constructed and nicely concentrated with attractive purity as well as depth. Consume it over the next 8-10 years.

Score: 89

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2009-2019 01 February 2009

New proprietor Silvio Denz’s goal is to take the quality of Faugeres to an even higher level, thus he has hired both Michel Rolland and Stephan von Neipperg as winemaking consultants. The 2006 Faugeres is a tannic, dense ruby/purple-colored effort with loads of structure, sweet fruit, and a backward style that is neither as forward nor opulent as the 2005. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring, and consume it over the following 10-15.

Robert Parker, - 01 January 1900

Shows dried blackberry on the nose, with hints of mineral and fresh herbs. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and silky, chewy tannins. Cool, minerally and fruity, with excellent length. Very well made for the vintage.

Score: 91

James Suckling, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2013+ 28 January 2009

A good core of fruit, with silky tannins and a medium-to-full body. Caressing and balanced. Very nicely done for the vintage.

Score: 89 - 91

James Suckling, Wine Spectator 01 April 2007

Sweet, opulent, voluptuous nose. Lots of richness and vivacity. Very much in the modern style; well-crafted tannins and some freshness too. Punch on the palate and punching above its weight qualitatively. Just lacks a little follow through but it has ripe enough tannins.

Score: 17

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2010-2016 18 April 2007

With the collaboration of Michel Rolland and Stephan von Neipperg as consultants, a recent change in ownership has pushed quality here. A powerful nose, rich and warm with lift. Plenty of flesh and extract with a silky mouthfeel, good grip and a mocha finish.

Score: 89 - 92
