Tasting Notes

Following the superb 2005 La Bienfaisance, the 2006 is a disappointment. It is a spicy, earthy effort with a hard, angular personality, austere tannins, and not enough concentrated fruit to balance out the enormous structure. It is a candidate for drying out.

Score: 85

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: N/A 01 February 2009

Tasted privately with a negotiant. Very ripe, quite oaky nose with crème de cassis and violets. Lacking a little delineation. Full-bodied, ripe saturated tannins, good balance and poise, ripe black cherries, blueberries with a touch of blood oranges. Modern in style, well crafted, approachable and very enjoyable. Excellent. Tasted April 2007.

Score: 90 - 92

Cool and mineral on the nose. Sweet red fruit, very crisp acidity but softer tannins than many. Elegant and fresh and a welcome change in this appellation. A Stéphane Derenoncourt wine. (JH)

This property came to our attention with an outstanding 2005 (RP 92-94) that was well-priced. The 2006 is an impressive effort with a vibrant nose of cherries and ripe plums. On the palate it is round and ripe with sparky red fruits and a touch of molasses at the back. Nicely textured with supple tannins. Not especially long but clean and pure.
