Tasting Notes

Very pretty aromas of chocolate, blackberry and a hint of nutmeg. Full-bodied, with firm, silky tannins and a chewy finish. Offers dark chocolate flavors, with coffee and wood undertones. Balanced and structured. Best after 2011.

Score: 89

James Suckling, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2011+ 31 March 2009

Floral and fruity, with a medium body, refined tannins and a crisp finish. A little austere, but a friendly claret.

Score: 85 - 88

James Suckling, Wine Spectator 01 April 2007

Good full red. Subtle aromas of currant and cherry. In a rather gentle, elegant style, with modest sweetness but good texture and breadth. The tannins turn a bit dry on the back.

Score: 84 - 87

Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 01 May 2007

Tasted in London mid-April and at the UGC. This is a fine Chasse-Spleen with a classic, quite reserved nose of blackberry leaf, hedgerow and a touch of freshly rolled tobacco. Very fine definition. The medium-bodied palate displays good depth of fruit, blackberry, black pepper and quite chewy tannins. Perhaps lacking some finesse and breeding, but that is compensated by fine balance, purity and a persistent, blackberry, earthy finish. Very fine. Tasted April 2007.

Score: 88 - 90

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 25 April 2007

This is good traditional claret. Pronounced aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry leaf and spice, with prominent Medoc fruit character in the middle and chewy tannins.

Score: 87 - 89

Albany Vintners, - 01 April 2007

Not much definition and overbearing greenness of fruit. Very austere and rather light fruit. Pinched green tannins on the finish. Light and rather inky. Just a bit more pinched than the other Moulis.
