Tasting Notes

A bright and deep purple but less overly coloured than the village wine and the fruit has stayed correspondingly fresher on the nose. More based on acidity than tannins, and the dark raspberry fresher avoids the raisiny side of the vintage. This is still a punchy wine, with deep concentration, but is more harmonious and the fruit slightly fresher. Plenty of oak which it can take, though less extraction would have been better. Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted: October 2022.

Score: 88

The 2020 Maranges La Fussière 1er Cru feels a touch subdued on the nose, missing a bit of terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, grainy and earthy in style with an introspective finish. Needs more joie-de-vivre.

Score: 87
