The 2009 Musigny Vieilles Vignes fleshes out beautifully with endless layers of fruit that caress the palate in stunning style. Sweet floral notes meld into expressive dark red fruit in this mysterious, evocative Burgundy. There is a weightless intensity to the Musigny that is achingly gorgeous. Waves of flavor continue to build towards the sexy, racy finish as the 2009 shows off its pedigree. The 2009 will always be an exuberant Musigny, but time in bottle will help shed some of the baby fat. This is likely to be a great, great wine for several decades. The estate’s 2009 Musigny Vieilles Vignes is a huge, explosive wine. Red raspberries, minerals, rose petals, pomegranate and white flowers are some of the nuances that emerge from this intense, focused wine. I tasted two separate barrels, one where the fruit and tannins still needed to meld together, the second totally seamless. This is a gorgeous wine in the making. A fantastically complex nose offers up aromas of rose petals, violets, mint, cassis, black berry and a plethora of spice nuances that continue onto the intense and remarkably powerful imposingly constructed flavors that are blessed with buckets of dry extract that render the presently rigid tannic spine almost invisible on the impeccably and palate staining finish that seems to persist without end. As was the case from cask, I could still taste this several hours later and if given sufficient cellar time, this should be a very fine vintage for this storied wine. Seems suddenly light and fresh immediately after Dugat-Py! Very charming and delicate and soft almost! LOVELY balance. So fresh! No heaviness. The tannins come up on you so stealthily... All zest and lift and roundness. Score: 17 Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2016-2028 27 January 2011 |

Deep, bright red. Superripe aromas of raspberry, blueberry, spices and honey. Big, sweet, deep and full; begins almost too easy in the middle palate for Musigny but gains in minerality with aeration. This wonderfully spherical wine saturates the entire palate and finishes with very ripe, building tannins and explosive length. There's plenty in reserve here-in fact, today the wine's fruit is not especially demonstrative-but this wine should be approachable fairly early. But I'm not sure this will top the 2008.
