Attractive gentle smoke on the nose, fresh acidities, blueberry fruit and rose stem with a sleek elegance. Has deepened and improved over ageing. 50hl/h yield, generous for the vintage, 40% new oak. Tasted twice.

The 2021 Cantemerle is floral, lifted and very pretty. Crushed flowers, red-toned fruit, spice, mocha and licorice take shape in a wine that impresses with its delineated, persistent personality. All the elements are nicely balanced. There is a bit of tightness on the finish, but overall, this is nicely done.

The 2021 Cantemerle typifies your "classic" Bordeaux. It has a light but delineated nose of black fruit laced with cedar and freshly rolled tobacco. The palate is balanced with a little chewiness on the entry. There’s some mid-palate weight in the, but then it dramatically tapers away and leaves you wondering if it could have given more. There's also a slightly herbaceous aftertaste.

Pleasantly aromatic with cassis and dark-fruit notes. Juicy and fresh, if a little lean, the tannins well-handled. The oak, though, is rather present and drying (prise de bois?). If it settles, this could improve.

Savory, with mushrooms, bark and dried leaves. Some cocoa and walnut notes, too. Medium body with lightly chewy tannins. A little loose.

The 2021 Cantemerle is a very strong effort in a challenging year, offering up aromas of blackcurrants and plums mingled with hints of spice box, black truffle and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and charming, it's supple and succulent, with a generous core of fruit and a saline finish. It's sure to number among the sleepers of the vintage.

The 2021 Château Cantemerle is good, and certainly an impressive Haut-Medoc. Offering ample red and black fruits, tobacco-laced herbs, and cedar, it's medium-bodied, forward, has ripe yet crunchy tannins, and a good finish.
