This is the first wine to display any appreciable reduction and it is enough to push the underlying fruit to the background. By contrast there is good verve and freshness to the moderately dense flavors that possess almost painful intensity on the lemony, linear and chiseled finale that flashes both first-rate depth and length. It's rare for Macherelles to achieve this level of quality - color me impressed. Pillot consistently outperforms, almost irrespective of vintage, but I have to agree that a number of his 2020s are indeed quite special. Maltroie and the extra fruit energy of Champgain. Good tension at the finish, more in white fruit, fresh peach without suggesting over-ripeness and very good length. Heavier clay here compared to Chenevottes. Tasted October 2021 Score: 91 - 93 Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy 30 October 2021 |
