The Clos Fourtet ‘98 is now reaching 15 years old. It offers a lovely ripe, rounded blackberry, mulberry, Chinese tea and incense-scented bouquet that is now fully open. The palate has a sense of femininity on the entry with ebullient red berries, a hint of kirsch and mint towards the ravishing finish. Lovely…such panache. Tasted December 2012. Score: 91 Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 01 December 2012 |

Compared to the 2000, this has a far more joyous, ebullient nose with perky ripe red-berried fruits, superb definition. Faint hints of liquorice and black olive emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly more red-berried fruit character than ensuing vintages, good acidity, softer than I expected and certainly more approachable than the 2000. The finish is feminine – very supple and lithe with notes of black cherries, a touch of cassis and black plum. This is a great Clos Fourtet – irresistible and pleasurable. Wonderful nose. Rich and dense aromas of crushed blackberries, tobacco and light coffee follow through to a full body, with velvety tannins and a medium finish. Very pretty now.—'88/'98 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2008). Score: 91 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com 30 June 2009 |

Bright red-ruby. Highly perfumed nose combines cherry, raspberry, currant and nutmeg. Dense and silky but also bright and nicely delineated; mint and spice notes contribute to its juicy quality. Finishes with slightly dry but even tannins and very good persistence. Score: 88 Stephen Tanzer, Vinous.com 01 May 2001 |

A strong effort from Clos Fourtet, the dark ruby/purple-colored 1998 offers pure blackberry and cherry aromas with subtle wood and licorice in the background. Medium-bodied, exceptionally pure, with low acidity as well as silky tannin, this sexy offering is ideal for drinking now and over the next 14-15 years. Score: 90 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2001 - 2016 23 April 2001 |
