Tasting Notes

Aromas of flowers, stones and hints of tobacco. Medium-bodied, very fine and pretty. The 18% cabernet sauvignon and 13% cabernet franc make the difference. Coolest Quinault ever. Drink or hold.

The 2014 Quinault L'Enclos is super-impressive. Ripe, silky tannins and a sense of textural finesse are two of the key signatures. Sweet dark cherries, graphite, spices, rose petals and mint are all laced together in an exquisite, supple St.-Emilion endowed with total class. Above all else, the 2014 speaks to refinement. What a gorgeous wine this is. The blend is 69% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Cabernet Franc.

The 2014 Quinault L’Enclos has meat and dried blood-infused red fruit on the nose, possibly with some expressive Cabernet Franc in the mix. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly green tannins on the entry that are framed by fresh black fruit. There is fine tension and a sense of energy conveyed by the finish and it should age well. Time to raise my score. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
