Tasting Notes

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Chambolle Musigny 1Er Cru les Charmes has a more introspective, tertiary, undergrowth-tinged bouquet compared to Hudelot-Noëllat's Chambolle Charmes, developing floral notes with time, a touch of leafiness. The more acquainted we become, the more intoxicated I feel. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple and fleshy entry. There is finesse here, purity and poise, a subtle and complex wine that might not be as immediate as others … yet the quality shines through. Tasted September 2016.

Full medium red. Reduced aromas of medicinal red cherry, pepper and herbs, with hints of crunchy red berries. Plush, fine-grained and quite dry, with the red fruit flavors dominated by musky minerality in the early going. Unforthcoming in the middle but the long, mounting finish displays classic dryness and excellent breadth.

Heavy reduction completely flattens the fruit. There is a really lovely texture to the refined medium weight flavors that possess a lilting mouth feel on the clean, cool and dusty finish. This is not as complex as the best in the range in 2013 but it's awfully pretty and very Chambolle.
