Tasting Notes

The 2019 Ségla has a tertiary, smoky, pencil box scented bouquet, a bit grouchier than its Margaux peers, stubborn in its flush of youth. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, pretty and quite elegant with a keen thread of acidity. There is impressive precision on the finish, quite mineral-driven with a satisfyingly persistent aftertaste. This Deuxième Vin always shines in blind tastings, its seductiveness shining through. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

The 2019 Ségla has quite a reserved, well-defined bouquet, offering slightly earthy blackberry and raspberry scents and a light ferrous note. The palate is nicely structured and quite high-toned on the entry, with cassis and blueberry scents. The finish feels quite hemmed in at the moment but it will broaden out with bottle age. Fine.

The 2019 Ségla is absolutely gorgeous. Bright and effusive in the glass, with gorgeous aromatic presence, the 2019 impresses with its freshness, vivacity and energy. Crushed red berry fruit and sweet floral accents lend finesse throughout. The 2019 is lithe, elegant and classy from start to finish.

The tannins have closed down from its En Primeur showing, suggesting there is a real depth to the fruit. Serious and subdued in feel, needs a good 20 minutes in the glass before showing its grilled cedar and liquorice-strewn cassis fruits.

Savoury black fruits from the first attack, this is well structured, in the line of the 1st wine here. It has confident deftly-drawn tannins and overall a serious feel of a wine that balances its coffee and smoked cedar notes with slate minerality and a mouthwatering sappy finish. Impressive, a little subdued right now, but this will undoubtedly soften and deepen further over ageing.
