Tasting Notes

The 2019 Beaumont has a delineated, fresh, cedar and pencil lead infused bouquet, lifted black fruit, light tobacco scents that emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly brusque tannins on the entry, but I appreciate the edginess and tension of this wine and the grip it exerts on the finish. Worth seeking out. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

The 2019 Beaumont, cropped at 50hL/ha, has a lovely, delineated bouquet of blackberry, briary and light tobacco notes. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, and not quite as supple as before, though I appreciate the tangy seaweed note toward the finish. Just what you want from a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur.

The 2019 Beaumont impresses on the nose with intense blackberry and briary aromas, sous-bois and tobacco, all whilst maintaining its delineation. The palate is supple and silky on the entry. There is well judged acidity, plenty of cedar and seaweed, tinged black fruit and a spicy finish. Now, this is a bloody great Beaumont.

Black cherries, plums, Asian spices, and sandalwood notes all emerge from the 2019 Château Beaumont, a nicely concentrated, medium to full-bodied Haut-Médoc with good depth of fruit and juicy acidity. This château always makes a solid wine, and the 2019 is no exception.

This estate continues to make a delicious, nicely balanced wine. The 2019 Château Beaumont has lots of red and black currant fruits, plenty of spice, leather, and tobacco notes, medium-bodied richness, and a rounded, already hard to resist style on the palate. It's going to drink nicely for a solid decade.

Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com Maturity: 2020-2030 30 June 2020

The 2019 Beaumont has turned out very well, wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet berry fruit, pencil shavings and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acids and melting tannins, it's charming and nicely balanced. It's the finest wine from this large château that I can remember tasting.

William Kelley, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2021 - 2039 07 April 2022

This remains a little austere, as it was En Primeur, with firm tannins and restrained but well defined cassis and blueberry fruits. Tons of Médoc signature, and an enjoyably muscular frame. Give this a little longer in bottle before drinking.

Score: 90

Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux Maturity: 2024-2036 15 February 2022

Carefully extracted and well-balanced cassis fruits with attractive dark pepper and rosemary spices running through the palate. This has tons of Médoc signature, controlled tannins and fresh acidities, earthy touches stop it feeling overly polished.

Score: 91

Jane Anson, Decanter.com Maturity: 2022 - 2038 05 June 2020

The 2019 Beaumont is a powerful, burly Haut-Médoc. Black cherry, herb, licorice, tobacco and game all run through this potent wine. The 2019 is a bit rough around the edges, but it will do just fine at the dinner table. Expressive Cabernet Sauvignon accents build nicely into the finish.

Score: 89

Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com Maturity: 2024 - 2034 01 February 2022

This is full and plush for an Haut-Medoc with medium to full body. Lots of blackberries and fresh herbs with redcurrants, too. Chewy, but polished. Give it two or three years to soften. Best after 2024.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com Maturity: 2024+ 23 December 2021

A firm, silky red with currant, mushroom and chocolate character and some bark. It’s full-bodied. Savory.
