Tasting Notes

From a parcel that touches the premier cru of Poissenot, the 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles St Jacques is one of the high points of the portfolio, unwinding in the glass to reveal a classy bouquet of raspberries, orange rind, peony and rose petal. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, layered and elegant, with fine tannins, a bright line of animating acidity and a long, mineral finish. Delicate and vibrant, it's a lovely Estournelles St Jacques.

Dark and savoury on the nose but still fragrant with dark fruit. An attractive stony/dusty character too. The heart is filled the lively, fresh dark fruit. Well balanced and long.

Dense purple colour, this has plenty of succulent fruit through the middle, more acidity than tannin at the back, shows its altitude, exposure to the wind and the cool white marl soil. This works very well for those who like a more austere style of wine. Tasted: December 2018

Score: 91
