Tasting Notes

The 2017 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru brings together tremendous textural richness with striking layers of floral brightness and minerality that add complexity. Powerful and yet wonderfully finessed, the 2017 possesses superb energy and vibrancy, with pedigree to burn.

The 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons bursts from the glass with a pretty, aromatic bouquet of citrus blossom, white peach and spring flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and expressive, with an open-knit, satiny-textured core, tangy acids and a precise, mouthwatering finish. From bottle, this confirms Didier Séguier's confidence and merits a higher score than I gave it from barrel.

Notes of pastry cream, white peach, citrus oil and spring flowers introduce the 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons, a tangy, medium-bodied wine that's supple and structurally open-knit. While I found it somewhat ephemeral, Didier Séguier contends that it's one of the highlights of the portfolio: let's see how it performs from bottle.

A more floral suffused nose flashes good Chablis typicity with its notes of petrol, pear and ocean breeze. Here too there is fine vibrancy to the sleeker and slightly finer medium weight flavors that offer both good minerality and salinity on the more harmonious finish. Lovely stuff.

Allen Meadows, Burghound Maturity: 2022+ 15 October 2018

The 2017 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru comes from 3.6-hectares located mainly in the heart of the valley. It offers light pressed flower scents on the nose with hints of nettle and dandelion. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, crisp and taut with a precise finish that just needs to develop a little more power. Very fine.
