Tasting Notes

Medium red. Deep, ripe aromas of raspberry, redcurrant, rose petal and underbrush, with complementary oak tones. Rich, sappy and sweet; compellingly round and ripe but with lovely underlying minerality providing support to the red fruit flavors. Captivating wine with ripe tannins and excellent perfumed length. This boasts near-grand cru texture.

The 2011 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts has a graphite-tinged bouquet that seems almost flinty, with sharp and focused tart red fruits that take a little time to mellow. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins, crisp acidity and a leafy but weighty/structured finish that lingers in the mouth. This is a Vosne 2011 that deserves three of four years in bottle before broaching.

A combination of oak and natural spice elements add considerable range to the cool red currant, plum and violet infused nose. There is excellent richness and power to the robust and tautly muscular big-bodied flavors that display a very firm minerality yet the supporting tannins are more refined than is typical with this wine. There is outstanding complexity and even in the context of the relatively forward 2011 vintage this is a wine that is clearly built to age. In a word, marvelous. Outstanding
