Tasting Notes

The 2000 Pavillon Rouge, exhibits a medium/dark ruby color with some lightening at the edge, notes of cedar, spice box, black cherries, and currants in very evolved style at full maturity. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.

Score: 89

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2010-2015 01 June 2010

One of the finest examples I have tasted, the 2000 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux exhibits supple tannin along with big, sweet, luscious black currant flavors intermixed with hints of cedar, spice box, and vanilla. Plump and fleshy, with low acidity, it will offer delicious drinking now and over the next 10-15 years. Don't miss it.

Score: 90

This excellent second wine, the 2000 Pavillon Rouge de Margaux is a fat, dense purple-colored offering with more obvious intensity and muscle. It will evolve nicely for 15 years.

Score: 88 - 90

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2002-2017 01 February 2002

Margaux's second wine, Pavillon Rouge de Chateau Margaux, has improved greatly. The 2000, a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, is a supple, delicious, flavorful effort. One of the finest Pavillons made to date, it should merit at least a 90-point score when bottled.

Mid to dark crimson with a ruby rim. Complex, mellow nose and on the palate the tannins seem to have disappeared altogether. Medium weight, well mannered, but definitely ready to drink.

Score: 17

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2008-2014 24 August 2009

Glorious aromas of freshly picked raspberries, with tiny hints of cream and minerals. Full-bodied, with superfine tannins and a long, long finish of berries and cherries. Super second wine from Margaux. Best Pavillon Rouge I have ever tasted. Best after 2010. 20,525 cases made.

Score: 94

James Suckling, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2010+ 31 March 2003

Medium ruby. Perfumed, subtle aromas of dark berries, spices, cedar and lead pencil; unusually sophisticated for a second wine. Supple, dense and suave, with lovely layered texture and restrained sweetness. Very densely packed and serious for Pavillon Rouge, but with no loss of finesse. Finishes with chewy, ripe tannins and excellent length.

Score: 89 - 92
