Pale gold. Vibrant, mineral-accented aromas of fresh pear, Meyer lemon and anise pick up hints of iodine and pungent flowers with air. Juicy and seamless on the palate, offering densely packed orchard and pit fruit flavors that are sharpened by a refreshingly bitter lemon pith flourish. Opens up slowly with air and finishes silky, gently sweet and very long, leaving vibrant citrus pith and mineral notes behind. A big step up, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Pure Roussanne offers terrific citrus, white fruits, and sautéed apple nuances as well as a fresh, very clean, crisp style on the palate. It’s moderately concentrated, yet has beautiful purity. It’s going to gain richness with a year in bottle as well.
