Tasting Notes

The 2017 La Tour Blanche has a very elegant and controlled bouquet, perhaps atypically for an estate that usually produces one of the more decadent Sauternes aromatics (not that I am complaining, for the record). The palate is very intense with layers of pure botrytized fruit, clear honey laced with orange zest and mandarin that segue into a dense, rich but fresh finish that is pure botrytized joy. Excellent.

The 2017 La Tour Blanche is gracious, light on its feet and super-expressive. Candied lemon, orange peel, mint and yellow orchard fruit are some of the notes that inform this airy, classy Sauternes. La Tour Blanche is a wine of real personality. There is so much to like.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com 01 May 2018

The 2017 la Tour Blanche gives up notions of cedar chest and baking bread over a core of white pepper, apple pie and peach preserves with a waft of lemon zest. The palate gives up a lot of spice in the mouth with plenty of racy freshness to support, finishing long and zesty.

Another blockbuster Sauternes from the vintage is the 2017 Château La Tour Blanche. This ripe, sexy, incredibly opulent effort gives up tons of honeyed citrus, orange blossom, and dried herb aromas and flavors. It hits the palate with serious sweet, yet shows the freshness and vibrancy of the vintage, and is impeccably balanced. It’s a great wine in the making.

Very spicy with lots of dried-mango, apple and pear character. Full-bodied and very sweet and flavorful on the finish.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com 06 April 2018

Enticing tropical melon, guava and mango notes roll through, laced with light almond and hazelnut hints. Offers a plump finish, in the hedonistic style.

James Molesworth, Wine Spectator 04 April 2018

Showing concentrated layers of fleshy mango and tinned peaches, this manages to maintain its exotic intensity without being dragged down by its own weight. There's a lift and zip brought in by some fresh mint notes, and the palate is silky and sweet. The vintage has denied it the acidity to elevate it to greater heights, but it's a good wine in 2017.

Open and expressive with citrus, spiced pear and almond paste. Very sweet and viscous, generous, mouth-filling and still fresh. Delicious.
