Tasting Notes

Soft, fruity and beginning to show signs of maturity, this wine is a medium-bodied, somewhat lighter style of 2005, but pleasant, easygoing and best drunk over the next 5-7 years.

The former regisseur for Mouton Rothschild, Patrick Leon, owns this estate. His richly fruity, surprisingly soft 2005 Trois Croix possesses excellent concentration and overall balance. Enjoy it over the next 7-8 years

This is the finest effort I have yet tasted from the former director of Mouton Rothschild, proprietor Patrick Leon. A blend of 84% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc, the 2005 Les Trois Croix oozes sweet black cherry and currant fruit from its projected bouquet. Displaying excellent purity, medium body, and a Pinot Noir-like elegant, savory character, it should drink well for a decade. (No tasting note was provided in Issue 170. We have instead included the text of the tasting note from Issue 164)

Has a pretty nose, with blackberry, flowers and licorice-tainted mineral. Full-bodied, with dense fruit, fine tannins and a long, minerally finish. Best after 2010. 5,415 cases made.

Score: 90

James Suckling, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2010+ 31 March 2008

Good full ruby. Sexy dark fruits, leather, smoked meat and earth on the nose. Silky and suave in the mouth, with good chewy depth of fruit. Layered, sweet and interesting. Finishes with sweet tannins and very good length. An excellent showing for this Fronsac property owned by the family of ex-Mouton Rothschild winemaker Patrick Leon.

Score: 87 - 90

Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 01 May 2006

Dark purple. Slightly charred note on the nose but lots of ripe fruit and energy. Smooth and much more friendly than many Fronsac vintages. Chewy and honest. Fresh and lively.
