Tasting Notes

Lovely stuff from a vintage that is sure to be overlooked, the 2014 Cornas offers notes of leather and spice, medium to full body and a lush, creamy mouthfeel. It's not the biggest, baddest, or fruitiest wine, but it's harmonious, savory and should drink well for a decade or more. Equis is the négociant business of Maxime Graillot, buying grapes from several Northern Rhône appellations and vinifying them at Graillot's cellars in Crozes Hermitage.

This has the trademark reductive aromas seen in all the Max Graillot wines. Redder fruits here with some pepper and sanguine, bloody aromas. Extremely fresh. The palate has a tart, tangy edge and bright peppery red fruit flavors. Drink now with a good decanting.

Lurid ruby. Pungent, smoke-accented dark fruit preserve, olive and floral scents, along with a cracked pepper flourish that builds as the wine opens up. Coats the palate with sweet blackberry, cherry and candied licorice flavors that tighten up slowly on the back half. Supple tannins lend shape to a smooth, fruity, persistent finish that echoes the olive and dark berry notes.
