Tasting Notes

The sophomore 2015 Lions de Batailley is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot and represents just over one-third of the total production. I appreciate the nose here, very perfumed and well defined with blackcurrant pastilles, cedar and mint. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe tannin on the entry, a mixture of red and black fruit, smooth in texture with a touch of orange rind and spice toward the finish. This is a fine deuxième vin from Batailley.

Score: 89

The new second wine of Batailley shows finesse and sense of place. Spice and dark fruit character. Fine tannins.

Good Cabernet cassis fruit - the first ever second wine from Batailley, using one third of the crop.
