Tasting Notes

This sweet, rich, supple-textured, medium to full-bodied wine exhibits a dense purple color and youthful notes of blackcurrant, licorice and spring flowers. This 2005 is impressively endowed, with moderate tannin still to shed. It should drink well for at least another decade. It is a sleeper of the vintage.

Another fabulous sleeper of the vintage, the 2005 Charmail is a blend of 45% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. There are 10,000 cases of this exquisite, sexy, deep purple-hued effort. It displays plenty of creme de cassis notes intermixed with notions of licorice, charcoal, and cedar, sweet fruit, round, ripe tannins, an endearing opulence, and a long finish. Drink it over the next decade.

One of the most consistent Cru Bourgeois over the last 10-15 years, this 10,000-case blend of 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot achieved 13+% natural alcohol. Its inky/blue/purple color is accompanied by an intense perfume of flowers, blue and black fruits, licorice, and subtle wood. The 2005 is more powerful, richly concentrated, and nuanced than usual. With decent acidity, moderate tannin, and a blockbuster finish, it should drink well for 10-12 years.

This property in the far North of the Médoc has been described as "the new Sociando Mallet" is one to watch as quality is now regularly at classed growth levels but prices have remained modest. Berries and vanilla on the nose with a well-structured palate of thick pure fruits. Well-integrated tannins and good verve and freshness. Modern and well-made
