Tasting Notes

Notes of smoky mineral-style reduction, citrus, white fruit and a hint of wood lead to rich and relatively full-bodied flavors that manage to be powerful yet reasonably elegant while delivering solid depth and length. Good if not truly exceptional quality here.

Score: 88

The 2015 Meurault Village les Grands Charrons, which was taken from stainless steel and saw 20% new oak including 40% in demi-muids, has an elegant and refined bouquet with apple blossom and granite aromas, a touch of almond in the background. The palate is crisp on the entry with impressive salinity and a fine line of acidity. Perhaps not as clinical as the 2014 when I tasted it last year, yet there is a gentle build in the mouth and it finishes with some lovely grilled walnut and fumé-like notes that linger.

Score: 88 - 90
