Tasting Notes

The 2015 Monbousquet Blanc d’Exception has an uncomplicated bouquet with scents of honeysuckle and dried pineapple, a touch of lemon sherbet in the background. The palate is fresh and clean on the entry with gooseberry, Granny Smith apples and pear, nicely balanced if just needing more tension to come through on the finish. Fine.

Score: 88

The 2015 Monbousquet Blanc is 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Sauvignon Gris, 5% Muscadelle and 5% Semillon. It has an attractive nose with honeysuckle, citrus fruit and white flower aromas. The palate is nicely balanced with soft, lightly honeyed pear and grapefruit-tinged fruit, but it needs more tension to come through on the finish to really make its mark.

The 2015 Monbousquet Blanc d’Exception is blended of 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Sauvignon Gris, 5% Sémillon and 5% Muscadelle and aged for six months in French oak barrels, 50% new. It was first produced in 1997 from vines planted on the gravel-dominant soil profile at Monbousquet. It is intensely scented of honeyed peaches, ripe pears and baking bread with touches of marzipan and beeswax. Medium-bodied, the palate has a compelling phenolic grip and lovely quiet intensity, with tons of stone fruit and savory layers, finishing long with some mineral hints. (91+)

Pineapple, mint, candied lemon peel and apricot are some of the many notes that grace the 2015 Monbousquet Blanc. Distinctly tropical notes and rich texture are two of the signatures that distinguish Monbousquet Blanc from most other Bordeaux whites. The blend is 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Sauvignon Gris, 5% Sémillon and 5% Muscadelle.

The 2015 Monbousquet Blanc is an attractive white built on texture and generosity. Ripe apricot, mint, white flowers and chamomile open up nicely. The Sauvignon Gris and Muscadelle give the Blanc much of its distinctive creaminess and body, along with exotic floral notes that brighten the finish. This is one of the richer whites readers will come across in 2015. The blend is 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Sauvignon Gris, 5% Sémillon and 5% Muscadelle.
