Tasting Notes

The 2014 Beau Site has an intense dark berry, undergrowth and cedar-tinged bouquet that packs quite a punch. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, plenty of blackberry and bilberry fruit with a tang of spice towards the finish. This Saint Estèphe is worth checking out: a vastly improved Beau-Site compared to older vintages and one endowed with longevity.

The Château Beau-Site 2014 is a blend of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc cropped at 42 hectoliters per hectare. It has a straightforward, sous bois and black olive-scented bouquet with mint aromas developing with time in the glass. There is good intensity here, if not the sophistication. The palate is medium-bodied with a pleasant chewiness on the entry: blackberry and a hint of salted licorice. What I appreciate here is the structure and density on the finish that should stand it in good stead for the future. This represents a fine effort from the Castèja family.

Love the spice and dark-berry character with hints of plums. Full body and velvety tannins. Long and flavorful with graphite, cedar and plums. Hints of bark. Best Beau-Site in years! Drink in 2020 but hard not to enjoy now.
