Tasting Notes

Like the Montée de Tonnerre there is plenty of mineral reduction present on the fresh nose of tidal pool, pear and floral scents. The textured, powerful and solidly intense flavors possess good size and weight before concluding in a lemony and impressively persistent if slightly less complex finale. This should reward a few years of aging yet be accessible in its youth.

Score: 90 - 92

The 2015 Chablis 1Er Cru Vaulorent is a selection parcellaire within the vineyard. It has a tightly wound, quite backward bouquet that demands coaxing from the glass, hints of white flower developing with time, albeit reluctantly. The palate is well balanced with hints of orange cordial on the entry, harmonious with touches of yellow plum and dried honey towards the harmonious finish. This will benefit from 3-4 years in bottle, but it should evolve into a crisp, taut and classic Chablis.

Pale, slightly cloudy yellow. Higher-pitched and more reserved than the Fourchaume, offering scents of white peach, mint and lichee; began in 50% oak but I never would have guessed. Very rich stone fruit flavors convey an impression of stronger acidity than the Fourchaume but do not yet deliver the verve or complexity promised by the nose. But this youthfully unforthcoming wine boasts a seamless texture and finishes with noteworthy lingering sweetness.

Score: 90 - 92
