Tasting Notes

The 2014 Desmirail is a Margaux that I tasted last year. Like then, I feel that this is holding back on the nose, perchance biding its time, though I admire the tightly wound brambly red fruit that feels nicely defined. It just needs to "rev its motors" a little. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp acidity, an abiding sense of symmetry and precision that comes through on the finish. I expect it will gain more vigor with a couple of years in bottle. (88+)

A red with chocolate and berry character plus some almonds and spices. Full-bodied, juicy, fruity and long on the finish. Yummy. Drink in 2020.

Sample taken on 11 May and sent to London. Dark crimson. Really bright, fresh damson fruit on the nose with a lots of acidity and fine tannins. Lots of energy here with some floral notes and a bone dry finish.

Floral yet quite dense black fruits, Margaux elegance is evident, but quite restrained and could be more expressive.

Steven Spurrier, Decanter.com Maturity: 2018-2026 13 April 2015

Supple and expressive in the glass, the 2014 Desmirail is a pretty, open-knit wine that should drink well upon release. Silky tannins wrap around the gracious, expressive finish, where hints of dark red cherry, plum, licorice, crushed flowers and mint add further shades of nuance.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com 01 April 2015

Ripe, pure and focused, with a beam of cassis, plum and violet notes backed by judicious toast on the finish.

Score: 89 - 92
