Tasting Notes

The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru has a very austere, slightly malic nose with hints of dewy green apple and fresh pear. It lacks some intensity but at least it has typicité. The palate is very fresh and saline - brisk and breezy, you might say-- with a strong marine influence toward the finish. I appreciate the crescendo in this Les Referts and way it ends with a bang! Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Score: 93

The 2015 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru les Referts has a bouquet that is not a million miles away from the Hameau du Blagny, pretty scents of honeysuckle, dried orange peel and jasmine developing in the glass. It is not as intense as the 2014 last year, but very nicely focused. The palate is very fresh on the entry with a killer line of acidity that slices through the citrus fruit, segueing to a potent spicy finish. Super-Bon (as they say in France). This is often my favorite label from Bachelet-Monnot andthis year is no different, although it will have to vie against the Folatières.

Lemon-yellow color. Elegant aromas and flavors of lemon, spices and flowers show a slightly candied quality. Suave, fine-grained and taut, conveying excellent energy and a light touch. Finishes with serious intensity and length. This fruit was harvested on August 29, in the morning.

Score: 91 - 93
