Tasting Notes

Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Meursault 1er Cru Porusots was very concentrated and intense on the nose, some SO2 to be addressed (like many of its peers) but underneath lies plenty of fruit with hints of passion fruit and grapefruit. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity that counters the rich, slightly honeyed fruit. This is a Meursault of stature and breadth and while not the most detailed, certainly packed full of flavor.

Score: 92

The 2014 Meursault 1er Cru Porusots had a lovely reduction on the nose that made me instantly think of Coche-Dury. It opens slowly in the glass with quite intense, citrus fruit. The palate is very well balanced, quite powerful with hints of strawberry and quince infusing the citrus fruit, great density and structure developing towards the finish that lingers long in the mouth. If you want a Coche-Dury inspired Comtes-Lafon, come directly here.

This is ripe enough where the white peach aromas flirt with being ever-so-slightly exotic in character but otherwise the nose is fresh and cool with background notes of hazelnut, pear and spice elements. There is excellent richness and volume plus very solid power to the mouth coating big-bodied flavors that also possess plenty of dry extract on the wonderfully complex and muscular finish. This is good stuff but note that a certain amount of patience will be necessary before this is fully ready. Outstanding

(this fruit was harvested later than the Bouchères and Gouttes d'Or): Bright yellow. Pungent, high-pitched aromas of ginger, quinine and white pepper. Tightly wound, even a bit youthfully disjointed, showing a distinctly cool aspect and noteworthy inner-mouth tension. Finishes with a slight hard edge that will require more élevage and probably more time in bottle than the Bouchères.

Score: 90 - 92
