Tasting Notes

(13.3% alcohol; from a north-facing, mid-slope vineyard against the rock of Solutré): Very pale yellow-green color. Tight and cool on the nose, with aromas of lemon and lime zest and crushed rock communicating a mentholated aspect. Saline, tactile and rich but extremely backward; remarkably weightless for such a plush wine, thanks in part to its 4.8 grams per liter of acidity. Finishes very long, with strong saline minerality and a grapefruit note. Saumaize says the ripeness of this fruit was blocked until the very end of the growing season, and still wonders if the wine lacks a bit of maturity. Clearly closed in the early going but this wine holds out terrific potential.

Score: 92 - 93

A restrained nose features pure and airy aromas of apple, lemon-lime, white flowers and a hint of petrol. The powerful and concentrated yet beautifully precise, stony and harmonious flavors are beautifully well-balanced and stunningly persistent. This is a knockout and should be on your radar if you enjoy high-quality and ageworthy Pouilly-Fuissé.
