Tasting Notes

Healthy red-ruby. Dark cherry, menthol, licorice and wild herbs on the demonstrative nose. Sweet and fairly plump but backward, showing a slight medicinal reserve and an herbal element to its black cherry and licorice flavors. This saline, fat wine is deceptively approachable today, finishing with ripe tannins, but its slow-building length and medicinal and menthol qualities suggest that it will need time in bottle--probably longer than the Echézeaux. Incidentally, Bouchard will pull up and replant its lower parcel of Clos Vougeot this year.

Score: 90 - 93
