An ultra-fresh, cool and admirably pure nose features notes of white flowers, shellfish, pear, mineral reduction and pungent iodine nuances. There is outstanding volume and intensity to the medium weight plus flavors that deliver beautifully focused power on the palate coating, mineral-driven and hugely persistent finale. The 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre has a clean and fresh, quite vibrant nose, which to be honest puts the Fourchaume in its place. The palate is well balanced, quite steely and rather laconic towards the finish, where I am seeking a little more terroir expression. I think that will develop with continued bottle age. The 2014 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre, which is vinified in 50% barrel and 50% stainless steel for six months before maturing in stainless steel only, comes from three lieux-dits with the Premier Cru. It has a very precise, harmonious, feminine bouquet that gently unfolds in the glass, just a touch of shucked oyster shell in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, a mouth-watering salinity in the mouth that compels another sip. This is a very well crafted Montée de Tonnerre.
