Tasting Notes

15% new oak. Intense nose and very voluptuous and lemon creamy on the palate. Quite forward and rich for a Chevalier. Medium weight and decent structure but not quite as tense as I’d expect from the combination of vintage and appellation. Good persistence though.

Score: 16 - 17

The 2014 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru has an enticing, subtle bouquet, timid at first but soon finding its voice and developing attractive citrus peel, yuzu and tinned apricot scents all struck through with tangible mineral tones. The palate is well balanced with impressive weight in the mouth. It never lets everything go, preferring to remain linear and maintain precision, gently fanning out towards the finish with a pinch of white pepper and vibrant citrus fruit. This is a very well-crafted Chevalier-Montrachet that is imbued with a sense of joie-de-vivre.

Pale yellow-green. Exhilarating aromas of lime zest, white flowers and crushed stone, plus a whiff of mandarin orange. Minerally and crisp yet creamy too, boasting superb sweetness of fruit, pliancy and thrust, not to mention an element of salinity. A very classy, gripping 2014 with a long, vibrant finish featuring citrus fruits, flowers and minerals. The average yield here was 37 hectoliters per hectare, vs. 35 for Montrachet.

Score: 93 - 95
