Tasting Notes

Not surprisingly this resembles quite closely the wine in 750 ml (see herein) except that it's a bit fresher and more vibrant. I have noticed that some bottles of the '88 Chambertin are not limpid though it does not appear to affect their attractiveness. Note that even in the larger format this is completely ready to go and there is no upside development potential remaining. Tasted twice in magnum format.

Compared to the '88 Clos de Bèze, there is a bit more of everything here except for more aromatic spice. Bigger, richer and with better intensity plus a bit more mid-palate depth and weight that causes the still noticeable tannins to appear better integrated. Beautiful now and while I would counsel drinking this over the next few years, it will clearly be capable of holding for at least another 10.
