Tasting Notes

The 2013 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots is seamless in the glass, with no beginning, no end and fabulous balance. All the elements meld together in an impeccable Burgundy of true pedigree. Voluptuous and silky on the palate, yet with fabulous underlying energy, the 2013 has it all. Blood orange, mint and bold red stone fruits punctuate the exotic, alluring finish.

A distinctly floral nose of lilac and violets displays a broad range of spice elements that add breadth to the red and blue pinot fruit aromas. There is excellent richness to the relatively powerful and mouth coating medium-bodied flavors that also are shaped by refined tannins on the hugely persistent finish. I very much like the complexity and the overall sense harmony. This too is really lovely juice and very Vosne.

The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Suchots, which sees 100% new oak (reduced to two-thirds next year), has an intense, candied bouquet whereby the strawberry coulis and kirsch scents permeate through that carapace of new wood. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite racy acidity and superb mineralité on the focused finish. It will require several years to absorb the new wood, but it will be worth the wait. It is a brilliant follow-up to the 2012.
