Carmes Haut Brion

Chateau Les Carmes Haut-Brion has emerged as one of the most compelling stories in modern Bordeaux. Once a relatively obscure Pessac-Léognan estate, it has been transformed over the past decade under the ownership of Patrice Pichet and the visionary direction of winemaker Guillaume Pouthier. Today, it is one of the region’s most sought-after names, with meticulous winemaking, and distinct identity. Beyond its sleek, modern winery and innovative winemaking techniques, a key point of difference lies in its blend: with Cabernet Franc often comprising 40% or more, alongside Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmes offers a floral, vibrant, and texturally refined expression that stands apart from the more robust Left Bank norm. This, combined with whole-bunch fermentation and ageing in a mix of new oak, foudres, and amphorae, results in wines that are perfumed, fresh, and texturally refined—distinctively aromatic and full of energy. The estate owns just 7.6 hectares of vines—remarkably small by Bordeaux standards—meaning production is very limited. For collectors and drinkers seeking originality, finesse, and rarity, Carmes Haut Brion has become a must-buy.
