Chx Grand Puy Lacoste, La Gaffeliere, Lagrange, Larrivet Haut Brion

More action today from all corners of the region.  Today's releases are highlights of their respective appellations.

Chateau LA GAFFELIERE - An outstanding terroir with neighbours including Ausone & Pavie, this rejuvenated Saint Emilion has had a great run of late and its 2022 was one of the strongest performers in the appellation.  2023 is excellent - “One of the stars of the vintage” 94-97 JD. “This is another in a succession of impressive wines from this estate that just oozes sensuality. Superb.”  94-96 NM.  £270 per 6 IB, down 20% on last year. 

Chateau GRAND PUY LACOSTE - A perennial favourite with those seeking fine Pauillac, standing out for value against its peers.  2023 is very classic, very GPL, silky and fresh, with crunchy black fruit & fine typicity.  Long and well-balanced, this should have a wide drinking window, early and over 25 years.  £273 per 6 IB, down 23% on last year. 

Also available in a GPL Special Edition Case containing a mix of formats:  4 bottles, 2 magnums and 1 double magnum of Grand Puy Lacoste 2023 @ £600 per case IB. (equivalent to 12 bottles)

Chateau LAGRANGE - Great strides have been made at this St Julien estate since 2008, but prices have stayed pretty reasonable. 2023 shows superb lift with “St Julien balance and reserved power.” 95 JA.  “Pure-fruited and gently grippy, there is admirable depth to this Saint-Julien, revealing just a hint of brine toward the saline finish.” 91-93 NM. 
£186 per 6 IB, with the release price down 21% on last year.

Chateau LARRIVET HAUT BRION Rouge
A rising star, the price is down 5% on their very good 2022 (when they were one of the few to reduce their price on the previous year).  In recent years they have reduced the proportion of Merlot going for more Cabernet character with intensity and classic minty elegance.  A great success in 2023, and the price compares well to back vintages.  £146 per 6 IB.

Chateau LARRIVET HAUT BRION Blanc - £200 per 6
"Based on 86% Sauvignon and 14% Semillon, aging in 75% new oak, this is a brilliant white in the vintage that readers should snatch up." 93-95 JD
